CoinMarketCap Has Allegedly Been Hacked

CoinMarketCap Has Just Been Hacked

Today, on the 14th of December, CoinMarketCap experienced a huge “error”. This has happened several times during the year, however, this time was something different. Every cryptocurrency and token in the market apparently skyrocketed.

According to CoinMarketCap charts, the cryptocurrency market just hit a capitalization of $692.7 Quintillion. To give you a better idea of how big that number is, the cryptocurrency market capitalization looks something like this $692,711,724,000,000,000,000.

If this were to be true, Bitcoin would be trading at $889 billion per coin; Ethereum would be trading at $525 billion per coin; USD Tether would not be $1 anymore.

Initially, people thought this was a crash or a mistake in their system. But according to a tweet by Mr.Whale, CoinMarketCap has been hacked some hours ago. This apparently led to the craziness that is happening. Moreover, people now doubting the credibility of the most-referenced crypto price-tracking platform.

Just some minutes ago, Layah Heilpern jokingly claimed responsibility for the hack. Although she did not mention CoinMarketCap in her tweet, most people believe that it has something to do with it.

Until now, CoinMarketCap’s team has said nothing regarding this inconvenience. Nevertheless, it did not take long for people to begin spreading memes for this mistake. Word phrases like “We made it bois” and “bears got rekt” are present in nearly all of these tweets. This is because, according to the charts, everybody who is hodling cryptocurrencies is at least a millionaire.
