Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, recently unveiled new cryptocurrency functionalities for Telegram users at the Token2049 conference held in Dubai. These updates are aimed at integrating Toncoin (TON) into various aspects of the platform, enhancing the interaction between users and channel administrators.
From April 19, Telegram channel administrators can begin accepting TON for advertisement payments. This initiative provides a direct monetization route for channel owners, fostering a more vibrant creator economy within the app. Following closely, Telegram will introduce a tipping feature next week. This allows users to tip channel administrators using TON, with a revenue share model benefitting content creators.
Expanding Crypto Features in Telegram
In addition to tipping, Telegram is set to revolutionize how users interact with digital stickers. Users will soon have the option to buy and sell stickers as NFTs, with sticker artists receiving an impressive 95% of the sales proceeds. This move not only incentivizes artists but also aligns with growing trends in digital art and collectibles.
Furthermore, Telegram is developing mini-applications where users can purchase content through cryptocurrencies. This broadens the scope for creators to generate revenue and for users to engage with exclusive content. Another innovative feature includes the ability for users to share TON directly with contacts during chats, simplifying the process of sending and receiving crypto.
Durov also highlighted upcoming features that facilitate greater usability. Users will soon be able to log into their Telegram accounts using cryptocurrency wallets. Moreover, they will have the ability to register and potentially sell their account names, adding a layer of customization and ownership to user interactions.
Telegram’s push to integrate TON more deeply into its ecosystem coincides with TON’s inclusion in the list of blockchain networks supported by the leading stablecoin by capitalization. This development, hinted at by an early April announcement of a joint appearance by Durov and Tether’s Paolo Ardoino, signifies Telegram’s increasing commitment to blockchain technology and cryptocurrency usability. No programming skills will be necessary to utilize these features, ensuring that all innovations are accessible to the general user base.
