Chainlink CCIP Goes Live on Coinbase-Incubated Layer-2 Base

Chainlink, the leading Oracle service provider, has officially launched its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) on Base, the Coinbase-incubated Ethereum layer-2 network. This development promises to open up new horizons for developers by providing them access to a secure and user-friendly interoperability protocol for building cross-chain applications and services.

A Month After Chainlink Price Feeds Integration

This announcement comes just a month after Chainlink Price Feeds were integrated into Base, granting developers on the network access to Chainlink’s robust data feeds and other Web3 services. The combination of Chainlink’s renowned data capabilities with the newly introduced CCIP on Base is set to empower developers and ignite creativity in the blockchain space.

Base creator, Jesse Pollak, expressed his excitement about the launch of CCIP on Base, highlighting its potential to enable the secure development of cross-chain applications. This expansion marks Base as the sixth blockchain network to join Chainlink’s growing list of supported blockchains, which already includes Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, and Arbitrum.

A Promising Vision for Blockchain Development

Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, emphasized the collaboration’s significance in advancing the blockchain industry. He noted that Base’s layer-2 solution, coupled with Chainlink’s expanding suite of services, creates an ideal environment for developers to explore and build the next generation of cross-chain applications and services.

Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) serves as a vital bridge connecting various blockchains and traditional Web2 applications, akin to SWIFT’s payment system for the financial industry. Chainlink Labs estimates that CCIP has already safeguarded billions of dollars in assets and facilitated over $8 trillion in on-chain transaction value.

A Bright Future for CCIP

Chainlink co-founder and acting CEO Sergey Nazarov has previously expressed the ambition to establish CCIP as the “new gold standard” for cross-chain interoperability. The protocol initially went live on Mainnet Early Access in July, gaining early adoption from prominent decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms such as Synthetix and Aave.

In conclusion, the integration of Chainlink’s CCIP on Coinbase-incubated Layer-2 Base marks a significant milestone in the journey towards seamless cross-chain interoperability. This collaboration holds the potential to inspire a new wave of blockchain innovation, making it easier for developers to explore novel use cases and push the boundaries of what is possible in the blockchain ecosystem.
